Dangerous Girls - Abigail Haas

"Wouldn't we all look guilty, if someone searched hard enough?"

Title: Dangerous Girls
Author: Abigail Haas
Genres: Young adult, mystery, thriller, contemporary

It's Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off to a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives. But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations.
As Anna sets out to find her friend's killer; she discovers hard truths about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.

As she awaits the judge's decree, it becomes clear that everyone around her thinks she is not just guilty, but dangerous. When the truth comes out, it is more shocking than one could ever imagine...

WOW.

Dangerous Girls is written through Anna's point of view with chapters split up into the present where she is in court, speaking to lawyers, her father, Tate; and into the spring break when Elise was murdered; and occasional flashbacks of Anna and Elise, Anna and Tate, and other friends.

It had been a while since I have read an unputdownable book and this book blew my mind. It was compelling from the very first page with a great, fast rhythm. Abigail Haas's perfect balance of the present and of flashbacks in the past kept the story alive and made me want more, more, more. I consumed this book as fast as fire would consume a forest. The suspense was excruciating. All through the book all I wanted to know was WHO THE HELL KILLED ELISE?!?!?!

I started this book in the morning, before school started...grave mistake. I literally couldn't concentrate on anything but the book and I even managed to read a few pages in my lessons, hiding the book under the table. I took it with me on the bus to a sport match and THEN had to wait another hour or so (the match) before I could start reading again. I can usually sort of guess what happens or at least have a theory, but this book had me pointing my finger at pretty much everyone and I had no clue what the hell had happened, even though everything was there. You just really have to pay close attention to everything. Abigail Haas doesn't make mistakes, she's meticulous. Everything she writes, she writes with accuracy and for a reason.

AND THE ENDING OH MY GOD THE ENDING.

This might literally be the best book I have ever read.

Abigail Haas is is a cunning queen and we should all bow down to her.

And the cover! The cover is perfect.
This one doesn't do the book justice:
16074758
This one is okay but doesn't give the same feeling as the one with shattered glass:

I recommend this book 100% whether you are into thrillers or not. This book is for everyone. However, although Dangerous Girls is classed as YA, it explores some darker elements than usual YA reads. I would class this as one of my favourite books...Yes, it was that good.

BUY IT AND READ IT STRAIGHT AWAY.

Currently Reading - Paper Towns

After seeing the fault in our stars movie, I came to the conclusion that I haven't really read that many John Green books, and I mean John Green is a God and I need to expand the amount of John novels on my bookshelf.

Lets crack on...

I like this cover a lot.

This is the cover I have.

PAPER TOWNS

Quentin has always loved Margo Roth Spiegelman, for Margo (and her adventures) are the stuff of legend at their high school. So when she one day climbs through his window and summons him on an all-night road trip of revenge he cannot help but follow.

But the next day Margo doesn’t come to school and a week later she is still missing. Q soon learns that there are clues in her disappearance . . . and they are for him. But as he gets deeper into the mystery – culminating in another awesome road trip across America – he becomes less sure of who and what he is looking for.

I am only 126 pages in and it is absolutely amazingly gripping and a definite must read, John Green deserves the best writer ever prize.

Before I fall - Lauren Oliver

6482837

Title: Before I fall
Author: Lauren Oliver
Format: Paperback
Release Date: October 25th 2010
Genre: YA, Contemporary, Romance, Fantasy.
Stars out of ten:

SUMMARY

For popular high school senior Samantha Kingston, February 12—"Cupid Day"—should be one big party, a day of valentines and roses and the privileges that come with being at the top of the social pyramid. And it is…until she dies in a terrible accident that night.

However, she still wakes up the next morning. In fact, Sam lives the last day of her life seven times, until she realizes that by making even the slightest changes, she may hold more power than she ever imagined.

REVIEW

When 17 year old Samantha is killed in a car accident in her home town, she vividly describes her horrifying and painful death, and what flashes through her mind in those painful final seconds. However much to her surprise waking up the next morning in her bed, with the memory of her death fresh in her mind, she cannot help but feel very confused.

Gradually she realises that she was fated to relive the day of her death, February the 12th repeatedly until she 'gets things right'. This leads to Sam having to examine her life and the people that were infact surrounding her, Whilst she was alive she thought she had it all, the popularity, the friends, the guy that every girl wanted. When Samantha realises what she has been living in she rebels and lashes out by hanging out with people she never would have acknowledged before. She starts to belive that she can put things right and save her own life. But she then realises that she had to relive each day in order to accept her death - but only if she is willing to save the girls life in which her friend's prime target. This Samantha is very different from the Samantha we see in the first few pages of the book.

FIRST SENTENCES

(In my eyes I would class these as the first few sentences, but for those who do not I will include those as well.)

" I know some of you are thinking maybe I deserved it. But before you start pointing fingers, let me ask you: is what I did really so bad, so bad that I deserved to die? So bad I deserved to die like that? Is what I did really so much worse than what anybody else does? Is it really so much worse than what you do? "

'Official' first sentences

" They say that just before you die your whole life flashes before your eyes, but that's not how it happened for me. "

MY THOUGHTS

I read this book last year and I can remember it (which is saying something). I loved this book and god, it made me cry so much. I like the fact that we each have our 'greatest hits'. I think this book was amazingly written but Lauren Oliver, I know you will never read this, but you need to make a really short novella of some kind, of what happened to the world after she died. What the hell did Kent do?! I need to know this stuff, it eats my brain, I have been patiently having this disease called curiosity lice for at least a year (and not just with this book) it eats away at your brain until you are mad, (its a lot like the Flare). Please...

Coverflips

Time for another feature of CoverFlips.

As I wrote this I doubted myself, I think it is also time for another book review, but this week has been hectic. It was the last week of term and I am so tired and so excited because its no officially summer to me. Here are your coverflips which are hopefully going to all be of books I have read. So its kind of like a Review/Coverflips.

~enjoy~

THE HUNGER GAMES

276705212885649Winning will make you famous.
Losing means certain death.

In a dark vision of the near future, twelve boys and twelve girls are forced to appear in a live TV show called the Hunger Games. There is only one rule: kill or be killed.

When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen steps forward to take her sister's place in the games, she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

MY THOUGHTS

I hope you all realise that this trilogy is possibly my favourite, I love the covers, so simple yet so effective however I prefer the cover on the right (which is the edition I have).
I love the hunger games. It is my life. If you haven't read it or seen the movies are you blind? It has been everywhere for the last two years.

LEGEND

The United States is gone, along with its flooded coasts. North America's two warring nations, the western Republic and the eastern Colonies, have reached a breaking point. In the midst of this broken continent and dark new world are two teenagers who will go down in history - 15-year old Day and 15-year-old June.

MY THOUGHTS

If you haven't read this book, I strongly recommend it. It is such a fast paced thriller, I was doubting whether to read it or not. But I read it and fell in love with it. However, do I like the covers? I don't know I think the one on the right fits the futuristic theme more, but other than that I don't know which one I prefer.

CITY OF BONES.

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

MY THOUGHTS

One thing I have learnt about Cassandra Clare is that e sure knows how to write, her books are full of adventure and romance, there is a perfect balance in-between. I prefer the cover on the right, due to the fact that I am more familiar with this cover and I think it fits the theme more accordingly.

11870085THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

MY THOUGHTS

I hope that all of you who went to see the movie had read the book beforehand, I cried a river, honestly. Mr Green, is a heart breaker and a terrific writer at the same time, it is quite extraordinary.  I prefer the original cover, as much as I love Shai and Ansel, I want to feel like I'm reading a book and not a movie.

Well that is it for another week, be expecting more and more posts.

Waterstones Dash!

Guess who has been dashing to Waterstones recently... yes, me. After Speech Day on my very last Saturday school of the year, my family decided that I should have a gift for all of my very hard work over the year and I could have anything. Long story short, I went book shopping and it was great.

Here's what I bought...

WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON.

One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two strangers cross paths. Two teens with the same name, running in two very different circles, suddenly find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, culminating in heroic turns-of-heart and the most epic musical ever to grace the high-school stage.

MY THOUGHTS.

I have been meaning to read this for along time, in fact my John Green part of my mind and my book shelf is rather sparse. So this is to add to my collection. I have been meaning to read this for quite a while. When I saw it in Waterstones, I had to pick it due to the fact that I recently read 'Everyday' by David Levithan and loved it. There would be no logic in leaving the book behind.

DEEP BLUE.

Deep in the ocean, in a world not so different from our own, live the merpeople. Their communities are spread throughout the oceans, seas, and freshwaters all over the globe.

When Serafina, a mermaid of the Mediterranean Sea, awakens on the morning of her betrothal, her biggest worry should be winning the love of handsome Prince Mahdi. And yet Sera finds herself haunted by strange dreams that foretell the return of an ancient evil. Her dark premonitions are confirmed when an assassin's arrow poisons Sera's mother. Now, Serafina must embark on a quest to find the assassin's master and prevent a war between the Mer nations. Led only by her shadowy dreams, Sera searches for five other mermaid heroines who are scattered across the six seas. Together, they will form an unbreakable bond of sisterhood and uncover a conspiracy that threatens their world's very existence

MY THOUGHTS.

I bought this for four reasons;
1. The font is the colour blue.
2. It's a hardback which looks beautiful.
3.The guy in the shop told me to buy it.
4. How cool would it be to be a mermaid?

Basically I was standing by this book which was lonesome on this little lonely table and I picked it up and the guy who works in waterstones was like "Oh my God, I read that book a few months ago its amazing." How could you turn that down? It would have looked really awkward if I had just put it down and walked off and look at that cover... its gorgeous and enticing.

10766418470187RAVENS GATE

He always knew he was different.
First there were the dreams.
Then the deaths began.

When Matt Freeman gets into trouble with the police, he's sent to be fostered in Yorkshire. It's not long before he senses there's something wrong with his guardian: with the whole village.

Then Matt learns about the Old Ones and begins to understand just how he is different. But no one will believe him; no one can help.

There is no proof. There is no logic. There is just the Gate.

MY THOUGHTS.

I grew up reading Anthony Horowitz, and these books just take up so much space in Waterstones and I just felt like "it is now time to read this series because you need to". Anthony Horowitz is one of my favourite writers and I am very excited to read one of his books/series again.

The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner, #2)THE SCORCH TRIALS

Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end.

Thomas was sure that escape from the Maze would mean freedom for him and the Gladers. But WICKED isn't done yet. Phase Two has just begun. The Scorch.

There are no rules. There is no help. You either make it or you die.

The Gladers have two weeks to cross through the Scorch—the most burned-out section of the world. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.

Friendships will be tested. Loyalties will be broken. All bets are off.

There are others now. Their survival depends on the Gladers’ destruction—and they’re determined to survive

MY THOUGHTS.

I have literally just started this, I have very high hopes for this book because The Maze Runner was amazing and I absolutely loved it.

I hope you enjoyed this.
I tried to buy more books that I wouldn't usually read, so I will report back to you what I thought of all of them.

Currently Reading - Maze Runner

After finishing Flip, I dug through my bookshelf and found a book which is going to be a movie in October. However I have vowed myself from watching the trailer until I read some more.

~enjoy~

I think this cover looks dated

I have this edition.

THE MAZE RUNNER.

When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze. Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there - or what's happened to the world outside.

I was very doubtful of this book when I first picked it up and bought it, and I must have been asleep when I thought it was going to be rubbish. I think the fact that there wasn't any romance threw some people off a bit (that's what did it for me).

I wont be doing a blog on it until I have read the other two.
