Coverflips.

Coverflips is back. It's like this feature has disappeared off of the face of the earth, but I have found it.

Lets crack on...

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES

157894626304335Is falling in love the beginning . . . or the end?

In Ethan Wate's hometown there lies the darkest of secrets . . .

There is a girl. Slowly, she pulled the hood from her head . . . Green eyes, black hair. Lena Duchannes.

There is a curse. On the Sixteenth Moon, the Sixteenth Year, the Book will take what it's been promised. And no one can stop it.

In the end, there is a grave.

Lena and Ethan become bound together by a deep, powerful love. But Lena is cursed and on her sixteenth birthday, her fate will be decided.Ethan never even saw it coming.

MY THOUGHTS

As you probably already know, I am not a huge fan of movie covers for books. If I do not agree with the casting of the characters and I see the cover before I have read it, it would alter my imagination of the characters and whilst I am reading the book I would keep referring to the pictures of the actors questioning why they do not look like the people I imagined. I like the cover on the right, it looks mysterious and dark. I would have to read this book to give a real review on whether the cover on the write is fitting for the storyline.

THE FIFTH WAVE

1610112819172282After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

MY THOUGHTS
The covers are very alike and I think that both of them reflect the storyline in a very basic way, by only showing one person on the front. I think the cover on the right is slightly more futuristic as opposed to the cover on left, it reminds me of space... whereas the cover on the right there is slightly more recognition about the fact that it is indeed Earth. I like both covers.

(A/N: Be prepared for a possible fifth wave news update!)

ELSEWHERE

3594101011086
Killed in a hit-and-run accident, Liz's 'life' takes an unexpected turn. She knows that she will never marry, have children or maybe never even fall in love - but in the land called Elsewhere, things carry on pretty much as normal.

MY THOUGHTS
I have recently read this book, so be prepared for a possible review. Anyway like both covers, however the cover on the left looks slightly more dated compared to the cover on the right, but it also has more relevance to the story as the cover on the right.

AN ABUNDANCE OF KATHERINES
1718874449750
Katherine V thought boys were gross
Katherine X just wanted to be friends
Katherine XVIII dumped him in an e-mail
K-19 broke his heart
When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton's type happens to be girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact.

On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight, Judge Judy-loving best friend riding shotgun--but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl. Love, friendship, and a dead Austro-Hungarian archduke add up to surprising and heart-changing conclusions in this ingeniously layered comic novel about reinventing oneself.

MY THOUGHTS
I love John Green's book covers and you will be pleased to hear that I am very pleased with both of these covers. The cover on the left is colourful, interesting and enticing. It also has full relevance to the story (thankfully). The cover on the right is modern, attractive and simplistic. If you have not read the book, you would be wondering how the two are alike or could connect to each other in anyway. Throughout the book Colin Singleton is searching for eureka moment (hence the light bulb), and half way through the book he does indeed have his eureka moment causing him to produce many maths equations.

I hope you have enjoyed this weeks coverflips and I am hoping to make this a regular thing!

Coverflips

Time for another feature of CoverFlips.

As I wrote this I doubted myself, I think it is also time for another book review, but this week has been hectic. It was the last week of term and I am so tired and so excited because its no officially summer to me. Here are your coverflips which are hopefully going to all be of books I have read. So its kind of like a Review/Coverflips.

~enjoy~

THE HUNGER GAMES

276705212885649Winning will make you famous.
Losing means certain death.

In a dark vision of the near future, twelve boys and twelve girls are forced to appear in a live TV show called the Hunger Games. There is only one rule: kill or be killed.

When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen steps forward to take her sister's place in the games, she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

MY THOUGHTS

I hope you all realise that this trilogy is possibly my favourite, I love the covers, so simple yet so effective however I prefer the cover on the right (which is the edition I have).
I love the hunger games. It is my life. If you haven't read it or seen the movies are you blind? It has been everywhere for the last two years.

LEGEND

The United States is gone, along with its flooded coasts. North America's two warring nations, the western Republic and the eastern Colonies, have reached a breaking point. In the midst of this broken continent and dark new world are two teenagers who will go down in history - 15-year old Day and 15-year-old June.

MY THOUGHTS

If you haven't read this book, I strongly recommend it. It is such a fast paced thriller, I was doubting whether to read it or not. But I read it and fell in love with it. However, do I like the covers? I don't know I think the one on the right fits the futuristic theme more, but other than that I don't know which one I prefer.

CITY OF BONES.

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

MY THOUGHTS

One thing I have learnt about Cassandra Clare is that e sure knows how to write, her books are full of adventure and romance, there is a perfect balance in-between. I prefer the cover on the right, due to the fact that I am more familiar with this cover and I think it fits the theme more accordingly.

11870085THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

MY THOUGHTS

I hope that all of you who went to see the movie had read the book beforehand, I cried a river, honestly. Mr Green, is a heart breaker and a terrific writer at the same time, it is quite extraordinary.  I prefer the original cover, as much as I love Shai and Ansel, I want to feel like I'm reading a book and not a movie.

Well that is it for another week, be expecting more and more posts.

Coverflips.

It's a Thursday.
One more day closer to Friday.
Which means it's the end of the week for you guys, but not for me seeing as my week ends on Saturday at 4. Urgh.

Anyhow Cover flips is back and better than ever.

 FREEDOM

Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul—the gentrifies, the hands-on parents, the avant-garde of the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbour, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to actually do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter’s dreams. Together with Walter—environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man—she was doing her small part to build a better world.

But now, in the new millennium, the Berglunds have become a mystery. Why has their teenage son moved in with the aggressively Republican family next door? Why has Walter taken a job working with Big Coal? What exactly is Richard Katz—outré rocker and Walter’s college best friend and rival—still doing in the picture? Most of all, what has happened to Patty? Why has the bright star of Barrier Street become “a very different kind of neighbour,” an implacable Fury coming unhinged before the street’s attentive eyes?

MY THOUGHTS ON THE COVER AND BLURB.

I like the difference between the two covers, one seems to make you think about the relevence to freedom (the bird one, on the left) but then there is a very basic and easy to grasp cover with a girl running with her arms outstretched. I really love both but perhaps the cover on the right would appeal to more teenagers.

I love the idea of this book, making me want to read it. Perhaps this could be a summer read to add to my very long list.

20424783VAMPIRE ACADEMY

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable night time rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

MY THOUGHTS OF COVER AND BLURB.

I love the colour on the left, its more hypnotising and darker, making me relate this to vampires more? I am not completely sure. The cover on the right is too bright, I mean blood is a deep red, not a bright red.

I am not completely sure that I would read this myself, I would recommend this to all vampire lovers though.

 SHADOW AND BONE

10194157The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka.

Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free?

The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfil her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him.

But what of Mal, Alina’s childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can’t she ever quite forget him?

MY THOUGHTS ON THE COVER AND BLURB

I found the cover on the left on Goodreads and the cover on the right on Tumblr. I'm not entirely sure as to whether the one from Tumblr is an official cover but I absolutely love it, however I am not entirely sure if it reflects what the book is about, which is a huge issue.

I might read this book, I have just read a snippet of it on Tumblr and it sounds so dramatic and romance-y and gripping, that it has pulled me in and I may have to add it to my 'to read' list on Goodreads.

THRONE OF GLASS

7896527
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined

MY THOUGHTS ON COVER AND THE BLURB

Can we just all speculate at the cover on the right, I'm not even overreacting to say its beautiful. Because it is beautiful. As you all probably know by now, I hate it when there are cover models on the front because that isn't how I imagine them, unless its a photo where is doesn't show the face of the model I am fine, other than that all you can see me doing is flicking from the page I am on to the front cover making absurd faces at it whilst the cover model stares back at me, looking all flawless with no blemishes, whilst I feel like screaming "I DO NOT IMAGINE YOU LIKE THIS".

Rant over.

People have been raving over this book for a long time and quite a few people I know have read it, but I have never really looked into it until now and this is another to add to my 'summer reading list.' But that's ok, because I don't plan on socialising for 9 weeks.

Well that is the end to cover flips for this very long week, but it will be back next Thursday.

Be prepared for a brief 'What am I reading' and a review on the selection series, because I have finished The One, boo.

Writing about the Coverflips

22628Finally it is time for the first feature of Cover flips, where we closely study the variation between book covers over the world! It sounds very nerdy and I'm not sure it is as nerdy as it sounds. This has been done by many people, but just sit back and enjoy.
Lets crack on!

PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

Charlie is a freshman.

And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it.

Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But he can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE COVER AND BLURB

I have read this book. I prefer the cover on the left, it just seems so much more inviting and happier and to me seems to have more relevance to the actual book. The one on the left is just ugly, I mean its a dodgy lime colour and has a pair of legs that look like a guy from the 1930's, I don't know.

The blurb is ok, in my opinion it's not a strong storyline and I found it very, very, excruciatingly difficult to read it and to force myself to the end. I think somebody told me to read it, so I brought it and was like "okay lets start!" without reading the blurb, or maybe I was drunk... who knows?

DELIRIUM

Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE COVER AND BLURB

Ok, the cover on the left I found on Tumblr and it intrigued me, the caption for it was "Delirium Coverflip → What the Delirium cover might have looked like had it been written by a male author, inspired by Maureen Johnson’s challenge"
The cover isn't a published cover or anything I don't think, I know it completely defeats the objective but its hypnotising. Is it just me that thinks it is absolutely perfect. I like a book that has a good cover, that I can show off to people as I walk around with my school books and my reading book with the perfect cover perched on the top.

The blurb is writing brilliantly, I love blurbs that have quotes on them. You knind of know then what to expect from the book

CATCHER IN THE RYE

Since his debut in 1951 as The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield has been synonymous with "cynical adolescent." Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his sixteen-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school, in a slang that sounds edgy even today and keeps this novel on banned book lists. It begins,
"If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. In the first place, that stuff bores me, and in the second place, my parents would have about two hemorrhages apiece if I told anything pretty personal about them."

His constant wry observations about what he encounters, from teachers to phonies (the two of course are not mutually exclusive) capture the essence of the eternal teenage experience of alienation.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE COVER AND BLURB

I like both of the covers, I mean lets be honest they both look cool. I haven't read this and it seems like a must read, but the two covers lack similarity. If I had read this book I could say one doesn't have much relevance to the story. However you cannot judge a book by its cover, I remember being told this in Primary School browsing through the 'free readers' books. Actually the first time I actually experienced book heart break I was seven and had read black beauty, it ruined me to say the least.

Anyway, the blurb seems awesome and I have only just read it. I cant believe it, I dont know whether this is my sort of book. But I do believe that Celine has read it.

227463

A Clockwork Orange

A vicious fifteen-year-old "droog" is the central character of this 1963 classic, whose stark terror was captured in Stanley Kubrick's magnificent film of the same title.

In Anthony Burgess's nightmare vision of the future, where criminals take over after dark, the story is told by the central character, Alex, who talks in a brutal invented slang that brilliantly renders his and his friends' social pathology. A Clockwork Orange is a frightening fable about good and evil, and the meaning of human freedom. When the state undertakes to reform Alex—to "redeem" him—the novel asks, "At what cost?"

MY THOUGHTS ON THE COVER AND BLURB

I love the covers both of them are totally different but captivating and eye catching. The one on the left I think would appeal to more teenagers, because it looks more modernised than the one on the right.

The blurb looks awesome, it seems very deep. I love books in which question our existence and how bad our future is going to be, it leaves my mind to wander in crazy places.

I'm sorry this is such a short, late post. I am very tired and hope you all don't crave your bed as much as I do right this minuet.
